The purpose: Describing how to make an item or cook food
through a sequence of actions or steps.
The structure:
• The goal/aim, which is usually the title of the text or stated at
the opening paragraph;
• A list of ingredients or materials, which are needed in
conducting the procedure;
• The steps or methods to be followed in conducting the
procedure.
The language feature:
• Use imperative sentences, such as “Warm the tortillas in the
oven for a few minutes.”; “Remove from the oven.”,
• Use time orders or sequencers, such as first, next, then,
after that, finally.
