 3.8. Coordination of noun phrases
- Noun phrases can be coordinated with “and” or “or”:
E.g. Students and their teacher ; English or Korean
- Parts of a noun phrase can also be coordinated:
E.g. A beautiful and intelligent girl (a girl that is both beautiful and
intelligent)
- Coordinated modifiers may apply as a unit.
E.g. A box of chocolate bars and candy (a box that consists of both
chocolate bars and candy)
- They may apply separately:
E.g. black or blue shirts (black shirts or blue shirts)

 3.8. Coordination of noun phrases
- A determiner may serve two or more nouns or modified nouns:
E.g: Her books and notebooks (her books and her notebooks)
Some milk and water (some milk and some water)
The quality of this pen and pencil (the quality of this pen and the quality of this
pencil)
- Coordination of parts of phrases sometimes can be interpreted in more than
one way:
E.g: His house and cars
(1) His house and his cars

 3.9. Noun Phrase Complexity
- Noun phrases can display considerable structural complexity.
- A noun phrase complexity included: appositional structures, clauses and
linked noun phrases.
- In a sentence, a noun phrase complexity can be a subject, a direct object or a
subject complement.
Eg:
[1]. The strict imposition of calendar age on people by society and by
bureaucracy illustrates a worrying degree of social regulation that we should
resist.
[2] This autumn, Tommy will be a final-year student who has to graduate
and looks for a job.
