ERP DEFINATION

Enterprise resource planning (ERP) is a

company-wide computer software system
used to manage and coordinate all the
resources, information, and functions of a
business from shared
An ERP system has a service-oriented
architecture with modular hardware and
software units or "services" that
communicate on a local area network
ERP SOLUTION

 Some organizations  — typically those with

sufficient in-house IT skills to integrate multiple
software products — choose to implement only
portions of an ERP system and develop an external
interface to other ERP or stand-alone systems for
their other application needs.
 For example, one may choose to use
human resource management system from one
vendor, and the financial systems from another, and
perform the integration between the systems
themselves.
ERP ADVANTAGE

Design engineering (how to best make the

product)
Order tracking, from acceptance through
fulfillment
DISADVANTAGE

Customization of the ERP software is

limited.
ROLE OF ERP CONSULTANT

 The role of ERP consultant starts as soon as a

company decides to check if it should deploy an
Enterprise Resource Planning solution.
 The first task of the ERP consultant is to run a
thorough analysis of the main business processes
and projects of the company.
 This analysis is done to check the potential of
growth in the processes and projects and find how
the management and work flow improvements can
be brought in using the tools provided by the ERP
solution.
Based on this information that ERP
consultants are required to prepare a white
paper regarding various aspects and issues
of deployment and effectiveness of the ERP
system in the company.

MANUFACTURING

Manufacturing Industry is one form of

business that existed from the ancient
period. The manufacturing segment initially
started in traditional business models and
kept constantly developing as improved
In this context it becomes important to study
the advancements in the sector and
technological improvements like ERP.
ERP helps the manufacturing sector in the
following ways:

Judging the requirements and outputs

precisely
Analyze the drawbacks
Coordinates logistics, supply chain and
warehousing operations
DISTRIBUTION

The Distribution Modules Offer Real-Time

Control of All Customer Service, Sales,
Inventory, Purchasing, Supply Chain
Management and Shipping and Receiving
Activities.
EXAMPLE
The PowerShop ERP Distribution Modules
include the following applications:
Customer ServiceSales Order ProcessingOp
tional
Customer Relationship Management (CRM)
Traditional & Internet EDI Processing
 Inventory ControlBar Code
HRMS

A growing number of businesses are

adopting ERP (enterprise resource planning)
systems in order to give their departments
accurate and accessible shared data. HR
isn't being left out of the loop. In fact, most
major ERP vendors now offer their
customers HR modules that help automate
an array of tasks while generating crucial
data for enterprise planning and
optimization.
TECHNICAL MODULES

 To achieve an effective data migration procedure,

data on the old system is mapped to the new system
providing a design for data extraction and
data loading.
 After loading into the new system, results are
subjected to data verification to determine whether
data was accurately translated, is complete, and
supports processes in the new system. During
verification, there may be a need for a parallel run of
both systems to identify areas of disparity and
forestall erroneous data loss.
DBA

Database administration is the function of

managing and maintaining
database management systems (DBMS)
software. Mainstream DBMS software such
as Oracle, IBM DB2 and
Microsoft SQL Server need ongoing
management. As such, corporations that use
DBMS software often hire specialized IT (
Information Technology) personnel called
Database Administrators or DBAs.
Back up

 backup refers to making copies of data so

that these additional copies may be used to
restore the original after a data loss event
CLONING

Cloning creates an identical copy of an

existing Oracle Applications system. There
are various reasons for cloning an Oracle
Applications system such as:
Creating a copy of the production system for
testing updates.
Migrating an existing system to new
hardware.
Creating a stage area to reduce patching
downtime.
PATCH PROCESS

The application patch takes a sourcecode

file (or any other file for that matter) and a
diff file based on changes that have been
made to another copy of the source. It then
merges the two, applying the changes
specified to the source file. This is
particularly useful for allowing developers to
collaborate through CVS repositories.
Patch only has a small job, but it is hard to
have it do this

ORACLE

Within the overall rubric of

Oracle Applications, Oracle Corporation's E-
Business Suite ("EB-Suite" or "EBS")
consists of a collection of
enterprise resource planning (ERP),
customer relationship management (CRM),
and supply-chain management (SCM)
computer applications either developed by
or acquired by Oracle

SAP

The SAP ERP application is an integrated

enterprise resource planning (ERP) software
manufactured by SAP AG that targets
business software requirements of midsize
and large organizations in all industries and
sectors
 SAP ERP systems effectively implemented can have
huge cost benefits. Integration is the key in this
process. "Generally, a company's level of data
integration is highest when the company uses one
vendor to supply all of its modules." An out-of-box
software package has some level of integration but
it depends on the expertise of the company to install
the system and how the package allows the users to
integrate the different modules
SIEBLE

Siebel Systems, Inc. was a software

company principally engaged in the design,
development, marketing, and support of
customer relationship management (CRM)
applications.
 The company was founded by
Thomas Siebel in 1993.
When Siebel Systems was founded, there
were some 400 vendors serving the
emerging market for sales force automation
software.
TA EDWARDS

J.D. Edwards, also called JDE, is a software

company founded in March 1977 in

(CRM), Manufacturing, Financials, Enterprise
Performance Management, and Student
Administration software solutions to large
corporations, governments, and
organizations. PeopleSoft was also the name
of the company's product suite.
PeopleSoft's product suite (also called
PeopleSoft) was initially based on the
Client-Server architecture The entire
software suite moved to a web-centric
design called Pure Internet Architecture
(PIA) with the release of PeopleSoft Version
8.
BAAN

Baan was a vendor of

enterprise resource planning (ERP) software
that is now owned by Infor Global Solutions.
Baan or Baan ERP was also the name of the
ERP product created by this company.
MANAGENMENT CONCEPT
5S

SORT
SWEEP
SYSTEMIZE
STANDARDIZE
SELF DISCIPLINE
DEFINATION

5S is a method for organizing a workplace,

especially a shared workplace (like a shop
floor or an office space), and keeping it
organized
SORT

Seiri ( 整理 ) Sorting: Going through all the

tools, materials, etc., in the plant and work
area and keeping only essential items.
Everything else is stored or discarded.
SWEEP

 Sweeping or Shining or Cleanliness:

Systematic Cleaning or the need to keep the
workplace clean as well as neat. At the end
of each shift, the work area is cleaned up
and everything is restored to its place.
STANDARDIZED

Standardized work practices or operating in

a consistent and standardized fashion.
Everyone knows exactly what his or her
responsibilities are to keep above 3S's.
SYSTEMIZE

 Seiton ( 整頓 ) Straighten or Set in Order: Focuses

on efficiency. When we translate this to "Straighten
or Set in Order", it sounds like more sorting or
sweeping, but the intent is to arrange the tools,
equipment and parts in a manner that promotes
work flow. For example, tools and equipment should
be kept where they will be used (i.e. straighten the
flow path), and the process should be set in an
order that maximizes efficiency. For every thing
there should be place and every thing should be in
its place.(demarcation and labeling of place
SELF DISCIPLINE

 - Shitsuke ( 躾 ) Sustaining the discipline: Refers to

maintaining and reviewing standards. Once the
previous 4S's have been established, they become
the new way to operate. Maintain the focus on this
new way of operating, and do not allow a gradual
decline back to the old ways of operating. However,
when an issue arises such as a suggested
improvement, a new way of working, a new tool or a
new output requirement, then a review of the first
4S's is appropriate.

KAIZEN AGENDA

INTRODUCTION
TRANSLATION
HISTORY
IMPLEMENTATION
DEFINATION

Kaizen ( 改善 , Japanese for "improvement")

is a Japanese philosophy that focuses on
continuous improvement throughout all
aspects of life.
INTRODUCTION

Kaizen is a daily activity, the purpose of

which goes beyond simple productivity
improvement. It is also a process that, when
done correctly, humanizes the workplace,
eliminates overly hard work ("muri"), and
teaches people how to perform experiments
on their work using the scientific method
and how to learn to spot and eliminate waste
in business processes
TRANSLATION

The original kanji characters for this word are:

改善
In Japanese this is pronounced "kaizen".
改 ("kai") means "change" or "the action to
correct".
善 ("zen") means "good".
In Korean this is pronounced "ge sun"
改善 ("ge sun") means "improvement" or
"change for the better"
HISTORY

 In Japan, after World War II, American occupation

forces brought in American experts in statistical
control methods and who were familiar with the War
Department's Training Within Industry (TWI) training
programs to restore the nation. TWI programs
included Job Instruction (standard work) and Job
Methods (process improvement). In conjunction
with the Shewhart cycle taught by W. Edwards
Deming, and other statistics-based methods taught
by Joseph M. Juran, these became the basis of the
kaizen revolution in Japan that took place in the
1950s.[4]
IMPLEMENTATION

The cycle of kaizen activity can be defined as:

standardize an operation
measure the standardized operation (find
cycle time and amount of in-process
inventory)
TOTAL PRODUCTIVE MAINTENANCE

INTRODUCTION
HISTORY
IMPLEMENTATION
DEFINATION

Total Productive Maintenance is a new way

of looking at maintenance, or conversely, a
reversion to old ways but on a mass scale. In
TPM the machine operator performs much,
and sometimes all, of the routine
maintenance tasks themselves
INTRODUCTION

TPM is a maintenance process developed for

productivity.
HISTORY

TPM is a Japanese idea that can be traced

back to 1951 when preventive maintenance
was introduced into Japan from the USA.
Nippondenso, part of Toyota, was the first
company in Japan to introduce plant wide
preventive maintenance in 1960. In
preventive maintenance operators produced
goods using machines and the maintenance
group was dedicated to the work of
maintaining those machines
IMPLEMENTATION

TPM Success Measurement - A set of

performance metrics which is considered to
fit well in a Lean/TPM environment is Overall
Equipment Effectiveness, or OEE.
