BASKETBALL

Coach- he/she is an
individual involved in the
direction, instruction and
training of the
operations of a sports
team or of individual
sportspeople.
Two types of coaching
1. Match coaching- - purpose is
to win match by managing a
team strategy.
2. Developmental coaching- -
develop through
reinforcement of basic skills
during exercise known as
drills.
Team Captain- it is a
position that indicates
honor and respect
from one’s teammates-
recognition as a leader
by one’s peers.
TEAM COMPOSITION
• Point Guard- usually the shortest but the best ball
handler on the team. Also known as the ‘coach on
the floor’ or the ‘floor general’, a point guard is
responsible for directing plays.
• Shooting Guard- the team’s best outside shooter.
• Small Forward- responsible for scoring points via
cuts to the basket a penetration; on defense seeks
rebounds and steals, but sometimes plays more
actively.
•Power Forward- usually the second
tallest in the team and are the closest to
the centre in terms of physical attributes
and playing style but with more speed.
•Centre- uses height and size to score, to
protect the basket closely, or to
rebound.
Officials of the Game
• Table scorer- keeps all the
records in score sheets.
• Time keeper- responsible in
keeping the time
• Referees- directors of the
game
Violations
Travelling- when you
run without dribbling
the ball.
Double dribble- when
the ball is dribble with
both hands
Lifting- dribbling the
ball beyond or carrying
it with the hands while
dribbling
Kicking the ball- when
a player kicked the ball
intentionally or not.
Back court-
passing/ dribbling
back in and out the
center line.
Time violations hand signals
3seconds violation- it is the key
where in you can’t stay place for
more than 3sec.
5seconds violation-There are
time restrictions that a player has
when the ref hands them the ball
to pass the ball into play. The
player passing in the ball has five
seconds to pass the ball in
to another player.
8 seconds violation-when you
are in the backcourt the ball
must pass to the center line or
frontcourt before the end of
8sec.
24seconds violation-The
offensive team must attempt to
score a field goal before the
shot clock expires; otherwise,
the team has committed a shot
clock violation
