life before God who has given it to him. It is God who remains the sovereign Master of life.” “We are obliged to accept life gratefully and preserve it for his honor and the salvation of our souls.”
“We are stewards, not owners,
of the life God has entrusted to us.” What is Sin?
Sin is define as a transgression of
God’s commandment, a rejection of his love, and an offense against a fellow human being.
transgression- an act that goes against
a law, rule, or code of conduct. It prevents one from developing an intimate relationship with God and a loving communion with others. Sin is an offense against reason, truth, and right conscience; it is failure in genuine love for God and neighbor caused by a perverse attachment to certain goods.
perverse- deliberate & obstinate desire to
behave in a way that is unreasonable or unacceptable. It wounds the nature of man and injures human solidarity. It has been defined as "an utterance, a deed, or a desire contrary to the eternal law. Eternal law is God’s plan to lead all creation towards God’s eternal salvific plan to be holy and blameless before Him through Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1:4–5) Sin sets itself against God's love for us and turns our hearts away from it.
Like the first sin, it is
disobedience, a revolt against God through the will to become "like gods," knowing and determining good and evil. Sin is thus "love of oneself even to contempt of God." In this proud self- exaltation, sin is diametrically opposed to the obedience of Jesus, which achieves our salvation. Dimensions of Sin
1.Personal 2.Social Personal Dimension of Sin
Sin is always personal in
nature. Personal sin is a person’s deliberate act of disobeying the will of God which affects the doer of the act himself/herself. •It is always personal in nature because it is consciously done by a person out of his free will, and therefore, the doer himself is fully accountable for the guilt that the sin brings. •Sin is committed because the doer personally chooses to do or commit it and he himself suffers from its consequences. Social Dimension of Sin •All sins that people commit, no matter how personal they are, always have effects on others. •The impact of these sins to other people is referred to as social sin (PJP II, Reconciliation & Penance no.16) •People live in a community and therefore inevitably makes them interconnected with one another that their actions, whether good or bad, affect other people one way or another.
