Emphatic Do

* ‘Emphatic Do’ is
merely used for
three things…
* 1. To add emphasis
to the main verb.
It makes an expression or feeling
stronger
I do think Chinese is a difficult language to learn.
I do hope she’ll be happier in the new house.
I do believe we’ve met somewhere before.

He does look like a smart guy.

* 2. With Imperatives
To be more emphatic or when the
action is urgent
Do come in
Do sit down
Do be more careful next time
Do forgive me.
 * 3. To contradict or
show contrast
It shows the contrast between the
expected and the real outcome

The office staff said my fax was late, but I did send it on time.

I do try to improve, but Chinese is really difficult
