Mission Indradhanush

Mission Indradhanush was launched by the

Ministry of Health and Family Welfare,
Government of India on December 25, 2014.
Between 2009-2013 immunization coverage has
increased from 61% to 65%, indicating only 1
increase in coverage every year. To accelerate the
process of immunization by covering 5% and more
children every year, Indradhanush mission has
been adopted to achieve target of full coverage by
2020.%
Objective
• The Mission Indradhanush aims to cover all those children by
2020 who are either unvaccinated, or are partially vaccinated
against vaccine preventable diseases. India’s Universal
Immunisation Programme (UIP) provide free vaccines against 12
life threatening diseases, to 26 million children annually.  The
Universal Immunization Programme provides life-saving vaccines
to all children across the country free of cost to protect them
against Tuberculosis, Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus, Polio,
Hepatitis B, Pneumonia and Meningitis due to Haemophilus
Influenzae type b (Hib), Measles, Rubella, Japanese Encephalitis
(JE) and Rotavirus diarrhoea. (Rubella, JE and Rotavirus vaccine
in select states and districts).
Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY )

•
• The Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha
Yojana (PMSSY) aims at correcting the
imbalances in the availability of affordable
healthcare facilities in the different parts of
the country in general, and augmenting
facilities for quality medical education in the
under-served States in particular. The scheme
was approved in March 2006.
NATIONAL AYUSH MISSION
• Department of AYUSH, Ministry of Health and Family
Welfare, Government of India has launched National
AYUSH Mission (NAM) during 12th Plan for im
plementing through States/UTs. The basic objective of
NAM is to promote AYUSH medical systems through
cost effective AYUSH services, strengthening of
educational systems, facilitate the enforcement of
quality control of Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani &
Homoeopathy (ASU &H) drugs and sustainable
availability of ASU & H raw-materials.
Vision

• To provide cost effective and equitable AYUSH health

care throughout the country by improving access to the
services.
• To revitalize and strengthen the AYUSH systems making
them as prominent medical streams in addressing the
health care of the society.
• To improve educational institutions capable of
imparting quality AYUSH education
• To promote the adoption of Quality standards of
AYUSH drugs and making available the sustained
supply of AYUSH raw-materials.
NATIONAL VIRAL HEPATITIS SERVILANCE PROGRAMME

• Viral hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver

caused by one of the five hepatitis viruses,
referred to as types A, B, C, D and E. The
Government of India through the National
Centre for Disease Control is implementing
the National Viral Hepatitis Surveillance
Programme.
Objectives

• To establish laboratory network for laboratory based

surveillance of viral hepatitis in different geographical
locations of India.
• To ascertain the prevalence of different types of viral
hepatitis in different zones of the country.
• To provide laboratory support for outbreak investigation
of hepatitis through established network of laboratories.
• To develop technical material for generating awareness
among healthcare providers and in the community
about waterborne and blood borne hepatitis.
Rashtriya Kishor Swasthya Karyakram,
7th January, 2014
• The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has
launched a health programme for adolescents, in
the age group of 10-19 years, which would target
their nutrition, reproductive health and substance
abuse, among other issues.

• The key principle of this programme is adolescent
participation and leadership, Equity and inclusion,
Gender Equity and strategic partnerships with other
sectors and stakeholders.
Objectives

• Improve nutrition
• Improve sexual and reproductive health
• Enhance mental health
• Enhance mental health
• Prevent substance misuse
• Address NCDs
Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) 2017

• Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram

(RBSK) is a new initiative aiming at early
identification  and  early  intervention
for  children  from  birth  to  18  years to
cover 4 ‘D’s viz. Defects at  birth,
Deficiencies,  Diseases,  Development
delays  including  disability.
• It is important to note that the 0 - 6 years age group
will be specifically managed at  District  Early
Intervention  Center  ( DEIC ) level  while  for  6 -18
years  age  group,  management  of conditions  will
be  done  through  existing  public  health facilities.
DEIC will act as referral linkages for both the age
groups.
Pradhan Mantri National Dialysis Programme, 2016

• The Pradhan Mantri National Dialysis

Programme was rolled out in 2016 as part of
the National Health Mission(NHM) for
provision of free dialysis services to the
poor. The Guidelines for Pradhan Mantri
National Dialysis Programme envisage
provision of dialysis services under NHM in
PPP (Public Private Partnership) mode.
Rationale

• Every year about 2.2 Lakh new patients of End Stage

Renal Disease (ESRD) get added in India resulting in
additional demand for 3.4 Crore dialysis every year.
With approximately 4950 dialysis centres, largely in
the private sector in India, the demand is less than
half met with existing infrastructure. Since every
Dialysis has an additional expenditure tag of about
Rs.2000, it results in a monthly expenditure for
patients to the tune of Rs.3-4 Lakhs annually
•
Affordable Medicines and Reliable Implants for Treatment, 2015

•
• Statistics indicate that Indians diagnosed with cancer
are 700,000 every year. About 2.8 million people
have cancer at any point of time and half a million
die of the disease each year. The annual figure of
women being diagnosed with breast cancer in India is
145,000, according to the World Health Organisation.
A significant number of patients (nearly over 50 per
cent) stop visiting hospitals after two or three cycles
of chemotherapy due to unaffordable costs.
• Hence, with the aim to reduce the
expenditure incurred by patients on
treatment of cancer and heart diseases, the
Ministry for Health & Family Welfare, has
launched the Affordable Medicines and
Reliable Implants for Treatment (AMRIT)
programme.
AMRIT centres

• AIIMS, New Delhi - The first AMRIT centre was launched at All India
Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi on November 15, 2015.
• Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER),
Chandigarh
• Lady Hardinge Medical College, New Delhi
• RML hospital, New Delhi
• Safdarjung hospital, Delhi
• Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research in
(JIPMER), Puducherry
• AIIMS, Rishikesh
• AIIMS, Raipur
• North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical
Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), Shillong
• Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal
• All India Institute Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Jodhpur
National Oral Health Programme

• India has a high prevalence of oro-dental disease and it is well

established that oral diseases are a public health problem and
have a great impact on systemic health. Poor oral health can
cause poor aesthetics, affects mastication adversely, cause
agonizing pain and can lead to loss of productivity due to loss of
man-hours.

• National Oral Health Programme (NOHP) was launched during

2014 - 15 to strengthen the public health facilities of the country
for an accessible, affordable & quality oral health care delivery.
Objectives
• The objectives of NOHP are as under:
• Improvement in the determinants of oral health e.g. healthy
diet, oral hygiene improvement etc and to reduce disparity
in oral health accessibility in rural & urban population.
• Reduce morbidity from oral diseases by strengthening oral
health services at Sub district/district hospital to start with.
• Integrate oral health promotion and preventive services with
general health care system and other sectors that influence
oral health; namely various National Health Programs.
• Promotion of Public Private Partnerships (PPP) for achieving
public health goals
•
Labour Room Quality Improvement
Initiative
•
• After launch of the National Health Mission (NHM), there
has been substantial increase in the number of
institutional deliveries. However, this increase in the
numbers has not resulted into commensurate
improvements in the key maternal and new-born health
indicators. It is estimated that approximately 46%
maternal deaths, over 40% stillbirths and 40% newborn
deaths take place on the day of the delivery.
• ‘LaQshya’ programme of the Ministry of Health and
Family Welfare aims at improving quality of care in
labour room and maternity Operation Theatre (OT).
• Goal
• Reduce preventable maternal and newborn mortality, morbidity and
stillbirths associated with the care around delivery in Labour room and
Maternity OT and ensure respectful maternity care.

• Objectives
• To reduce maternal and newborn mortality & morbidity due to APH, PPH,
retained placenta, preterm, preeclampsia & eclampsia, obstructed labour,
puerperal sepsis, newborn asphyxia, and sepsis, etc.
• To improve Quality of care during the delivery and immediate post-partum
care, stabilization of complications and ensure timely referrals, and enable
an effective two-way follow-up system.
• To enhance satisfaction of beneficiaries visiting the health facilities and
provide Respectful Maternity Care (RMC) to all pregnant women attending
the public health facility.
•
National Nutrition Mission

• Government is implementing several schemes and

programs under the Umbrella Integrated Child
Development Services Scheme as direct targeted
interventions to address the problem of
malnutrition in the country. All these schemes
address one or other aspects related to nutrition
and have the potential to improve nutritional
outcomes in the country.
About the Mission

• The goals of NNM are to achieve

improvement in nutritional status of Children
from 0-6 years, Adolescent Girls, Pregnant
Women and Lactating Mothers in a time
bound manner during the next three years
beginning 2017-18.
National Sub-Mission to provide safe
drinking water

• The National Sub-Mission to provide safe drinking water is

to be completed on mission mode before March 2020. The
urgency of implementation of the mission is due to:
• Criticality and urgency of the matter
• Requirement of significant increase in operational
efficiency
• Requirement of additional funds, robust monitoring and
surveillance of those
• Requirement of special technology, manpower and
strategy to achieve the goal
Goal
• To cover of all the arsenic & fluoride affected
habitations with safe & perennial surface
water based piped Water supply schemes as
the permanent & sustainable solution.
