Change in Myths and

Legends
Metamorphosis
Functions of Myths
and Legends
1) Before we began to write, these stories
were passed down from one generation to
another orally and were an important
means of presenting history, culture,
tradition and identity.
2) Rituals and ceremonies also come
from myth and legends and many
are still practiced in the modern
world.
Dodole – the girls who, in the time of long
droughts, tried to please the gods with their
game and summon rain.
3) Connections
Not only do myths and legends
provide us with an opportunity to
celebrate our cultural diversity,
but more importantly – they
highlight just how similar we are
to one another, despite our
differences.
Stock characters
Stock character is one who represents
specific stereotype. They are types, not
individuals (The Trickster, The Hero,
Gods and Godesses…)
