Habitats

What is a Habitat?

A habitat is where an animal

lives. In its habitat, an animal
needs to find enough food,
water and shelter to survive.
The Ocean
 Coral reef provides a habitat for fish and other
ocean animals to live in.
 Fish use the coral for protection. Fish can hide from
predators in the small spaces between the coral.
 Fish can eat other small fish and plankton that live
in the coral.
The Rainforest

 The weather and trees in the rainforest provide a

home to many animals, insects, and plants.
The Desert

 The high temperatures and lack of rain make it

difficult for many plants and animals to live in the
desert.
Animals in the Desert

 Snakes

 Desert Fox

 Camel

 Lizards

 Insects such as scorpions and spiders

Plants in the Desert

 Palm Trees

 Cactus

 Small Shrubs
The Arctic

 The Arctic has many trees and animals. These areas

are home to many animals.
Arctic Animals

 Animals you might find living in the Arctic are:

The Antarctic

 The Antarctic has no trees or plant life. Whales,

porpoises, and seals live in the surrounding oceans.
Penguins live on the land and get their food from
the ocean.
The Antarctic

 No communities of people live in the Antarctic. The

only people who might live there are scientists who
are doing research.
