 ISIS AND THE GLOBAL THREAT OF
TERRORISM

• The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is

widely known for its videos of beheadings,
human rights abuses, war crimes, ethnic
cleansing on a "historic scale“. ISIS also
promotes religious violence, and regards
Muslims who do not agree with its
interpretations as infidels or apostates.
• The ISIS has extensively utilized the social
media and has been very effective in
attracting and inspiring more and more
people from very diverse backgrounds for
expanding its territory as a central part of
its ideology.
• They also use social media successfully for
propaganda, which is also relevant as an
issue of radicalization as a platform to expose
their message to the widest possible audience.
