Sun’s Rays at

Different Angles on
Earth
• The Earth’s shape is spherical. This
causes the Sun’s rays to strike the Earth’s
surface at different angles, creating
variances in temperatures on Earth.
• The equator receives the most direct sunlight
because sunlight arrives at a perpendicular (90
degree) angle to the Earth.
• The tilt of the Earth also influences the effects
of incoming solar energy on atmospheric and
surface temperatures. The tilt of the Earth
influences the amount of sunlight that a
particular location receives.
• The amount of heat receive by places far from
the equator becomes less because the sun's
rays is much more concentrated in the
equator and as the places gets more distanced
from the equator, it receives less heat from
the sun.
