SATUYAGRAHA: TRUTH AND NON
VIOLENCE
Idea of SATYAGRAHA EMPHASISED that if the
cause is true , if the struggle is against injustice , then
physical force was not necessary to fight the oppressor .
PRINCIPLES FOR STAYAGRAHA
Gandhi envisioned satyagraha as not only a tactic to be used in acute political struggle,
but as a universal solvent for injustice and harm . He felt that it was equally applicable
to large-scale political struggle and to one-on-one interpersonal conflicts and that it
should be tought to everyone.
He founded the Sabarmati Asharam to teach satyagraha. He
asked satyagrahis to follow the following principles (Yamas
Described in Yoga sutra )
TRUTH= this include honesty, but goes beyond it to mean
living fully in accord with and in devotion to that which is true

. Satyagraha is not the physical force. A satyagrahi does not inflict pain on
adversary

Satyagraha is pure soul-force and truth is very substance of soul. That is

why the force is called SATYAGRAHA

IN chaparan peasants were forced to grow indigo in 1/3 of there cultivatable land. They were paid
less and the value given to the yield was less. The wages paid to labours were extremely low and
entirely inadequate

was 35% increase I the wages of the workers.
