Inspiration from Employer
As part of a survey conducted(Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire), the executives scored high on
“transformational” or charismatic leadership designed to encourage employees to care about the goals of the
leaders and the organization.
There are currently four major practices in Indian organization:
 Creating a sense of mission: Indian leaders have long been involved in societal issues, preemptively investing in
community services and infrastructure.
 Engaging through transparency and accountability: Indian leaders build employee commitment by encouraging
openness and reciprocity.
 Empowering through communication: This engagement will translate into action, Indian leaders go to
considerable lengths to empower employees, although this challenges the traditional Indian deference to
hierarchy.
 Investing in training: The qualitative and the quantitative data show that Indian companies invest heavily in
employee development—often more so than Western companies. This is partly to ensure that employees have
the tools to do their best work, but it’s also designed to strengthen their commitment to the company.
