+ The two sentences share nouns (gash) that refer to the same thing.
Eg2: The man is a famous actor. The man was sitting next to you. (example of our own group)
The man (The man was sitting next to you) is a famous actor.
The man who was sitting next to you is a famous actor.
● In both [Eg1] and [Eg2] the relative pronoun can be replaced by relative that:
[Eg1] He had a nasty gash that needed medical attention.
[Eg2] The man that was sitting next to you is a famous actor.
