BRAIN ANATOMY

We study the brain because the human brain governs all

human activities, including the ability to comprehend and
produce language.
The brain is divided into two nearly symmetrical halves, the
right and the left hemispheres.
Each hemisphere is further divided into four areas of the
brain, called lobes.
There are small differences in the sizes of some regions in the
two hemispheres
Left hemisphere: Language ,Math, Logic, and Reasoning.
Right hemisphere: Spatial abilities, Face recognition, Visual
imagery , and Music
THE TEMPORAL LOBE is associated the auditory stimuli.
THE FRONTAL LOBE It is concerned with higher thinking and
language production.
THE OCCIPITAL LOBE is associated with many aspects of the
vision.
THE PARIETAL LOBE, It is least involved in language
perception and production.
The two hemispheres are connected by a bundle of nerve
fibers called the corpus calosum.
The brain is covered by one-quarter- inch thick membrane
called the cortex.
Two major fissures are: Central fissure and Lateral fissure.
THE FLOW OF LINGUISTIC INFORMATION
Producing a spoken word : MTG/ITG, Arcuate fasciculus,
IFG (Broca’s area) and Motor cortex.
Hearing a word: Auditory cortex, Extreme capsule and
MTG/ITG MTG/ITG.
Reading a Word : Visual cortex, Angular gyrus and
MTG/ITG.
