A Comparison of Anticancer

activity of Pigments from

two Streptomyces species
INTRODUCTION

Most treatments against cancer only eases the condition but does
not actually cure it however naturally derived novel therapeutic
agents have been strong potential sources in the treatment of cancer
and one of the strong candidates of such compounds would be
bacterial pigments. Bioactive pigments from bacteria, specifically
terrestrial and marine Streptomyces sp, have been recently known to
produce prolific bioactive compounds that reduces the life and
activity of cancer cells. However, the level of efficacy between
pigments from ecologically different Streptomyces sp. may answer
which is most cytotoxic against cancer cells.
OBJECTIVE:

• To compare the cytotoxicity of bioactive

pigments from Streptomyces
griseoaurantiacus and s. rubber against
Human cancer cell lines.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

• View bacterial pigments as potential sources

of treating cancer
• Offers no disturbance on the ecosystem
