Introduction
•The Word AutoCAD is made up of two words Auto
(company) and CAD (computer aided design).
•AutoCAD is a 2D and 3D modeling software.
•It is developed by john walker.
•Autodesk is an U.S.A based company.
•It is widely used in industry for 2D drawing and 3D
modeling.
•In another way we can say that AutoCAD is a designing
course ,
which is performed by the help of computer.
•AutoCAD software was firstly launched by Autodesk company in Dec.
1982.
•It came to India in 1988.
•The first version of AutoCAD was R1 after that R2,R3,R4……………
and so on.
•In 2000,Autodesk launched a version of AutoCAD 2000 after that
2001,2002…… so on.
•This time, we have the latest version of AutoCAD is 2018,which is
launched on 21st march 2017.
•Latest version is easy to use and over come the difficulties of old
version.
AutoCAD in present day scenario:-

•AutoCAD is one of leading and the best known Computer Aided

Design(CAD) software being used worldwide.

•It is used in all kinds of industry sectors where drafting, modeling and
design are core functions.

•AutoCAD is the widely recommended solution available to the drafters

as it makes drawing and drafting very easy and handy work.
AutoCAD Screen:-
AutoCAD Commands:
•Nearly every action you perform in AutoCAD is based on a command.
•You use commands to tell AutoCAD the actions you want it to perform, and
AutoCAD responds with command prompts.
•You can use any of the following to start commands:
• AutoCAD menus.
• Toolbars.
• Shortcut menus.
• Command line.
• Accelerator keys.
Useful Keyboard Keys:

COPY:
Draws a copy of selected objects.
Command: COPY (enter).
Select objects or Window or Last: (select objects to be
copied).
Base point or displacement: (pick a point on the object to be
use as a reference point).
Second point of displacement: (pick a point which
represents the new location of the copied object).
MIRROR:
Makes mirror images of existing objects.
Command: MIRROR (enter).
Select objects or Window or Last: (select objects to be mirrored).
First point of mirror line: (pick a point on top of the mirror line).
Second point: (pick a point on the bottom of the mirror line).
Delete old objects? <N> y or n (enter).

SCALE:
Enlarges or reduces selected objects.
A scale factor greater than 1 enlarges the object.
A scale factor between 0 and 1 shrinks the object.
ARRAY:
Makes multiple copies of selected objects in a rectangular or circular pattern.
Command: ARRAY

1. PATH ARRAY 2.RECTANGULAR ARRAY 3.POLAR ARRAY

EXTEND:
Lengthens a line to end precisely at a boundary edge.
Command: Extend (enter).
Select boundary edge(s)...
Select Objects (pick the line which represents the boundary
edge which lines will be extended to).
(press enter when finished selecting cutting edges).
<Select object to extend>/Undo: (pick the line(s) that need to
be extended).

JOIN:
Joins the endpoints of linear and curved objects to create a
single object.
Combines a series of finite linear and open curved objects at
their common endpoints to create a single 2D or 3D object.
OFFSET:
TRIM: Constructs an entity parallel to another
•Trims a line to end precisely at a cutting entity at a specified distance.
edge.
•Command: Trim (enter). Offset can be used with lines, circles,
•Select cutting edge(s)... arcs, and polylines.
•Select Objects (pick the line which Command: OFFSET (enter).
represents the cutting edge
Offset distance or Through <last>:
of line in which objects will be trimmed
to). (enter a distance value).
•(press enter when finished selecting cutting Select object to offset: (select object to
edges). offset).
•<Select object to trim>/Undo: (pick the Side to offset: (Pick any point on the
line(s) that need to be trimmed).
side of the object you wish to offset).
HATCHING:
Gradient
Isometric Drawings:
•Simulate an isometric view of a 3D object by aligning
objects along three major axes.
•The term isometric means equal (iso) measure
(metric).
•The most common type of pictorial drawing used in
the drafting industry is the isometric drawing. . This
supplement focuses on tools and drawing aids that help
you create 2D isometric views that look 3D, as if the
object tilts toward you.
To go to isometric view:
Go to snap and right click.
Click on settings.
Go to snap type.
Select isometric snap.
Click on ok.
oThe standard isometric planes, called isoplanes, are as follows:
• Right. Aligns snap and grid along 30- and 90-degree axes.
• Left. Aligns snap and grid along 90- and 150-degree axes.
• Top. Aligns snap and grid along 30- and 150-degree axes.

o You can use the Isometric Drafting tool on the status bar to select the
desired isoplane. Alternatively, you can press F5 or Ctrl+E to cycles
through the isoplanes.
Some isometric drawing examples:
3D modeling:
•3D modeling in AutoCAD includes 3D solids, surfaces,
meshes, and wireframe objects.
Types of 3D modeling:
Some 3d objects:
1.Box.
2.Cylinder.
3.Cone.
4.Sphere.
5.Pyramid.
6.Wedge.
7.Torus.
Some 3D commands:
EXTRUDE:
Creates a 3D solid from an object that encloses an area, or a 3D surface from an object with
open ends.

An open polyline will create a surface

A closed polyline will create a
model
3D Solid Model
LOFT:
LOFT is one of the most basic 3D commands which is generally used for making complex
and even organic shaped geometries with relative ease.

More about loft:

REVOLVE:
• Creates a 3D solid or surface by sweeping an object around
an axis.
• We can give angle in between 0 to 360
degrees.

 SWEEP:

Creates a 3D solid or 3D surface

by sweeping a 2D object or sub
object along an open or closed
path.
PRESSPULL:
• Press pull can extend in the Z direction or be set
to taper or follow a path.
• You can extrude an open or closed object to
create a 3D surface or solid.
Some commands used in AutoCAD 3D:
1.3D MOVE.
2.3D ROTATE.
3.3D SCALE.
4.SUBTRACT.
5.UNION.
6.INTERSECTION.
