SORTING

OF CELLS
LESSON 9
LESSON GOALS

• At the end of the discussion the students must be able to:

• Discover how cells are sorted
• Find out how to fill cells quickly with repeating data
Sorting Cells

• When you sort some things, it means you

arrange them in some order. You can sort
words in ascending, or alphabetical, order.
You can also sort them in descending
order, starting from Z to A. You can sort
numbers from the lowest value to the
highest value.
Sorting Based on One Column
1. Select the cells to be sorted.
2. In the Editing group of the Home tab, click on Sort & Filter.
3. On the drop-down menu, click on either Sort A to Z or Sort Z to A . If you are
sorting only one column and there is data in the column beside it, the Sort
Warning window will appear.

4. If you are going to sort the cells only in the selected column, click on
Continue with the current selection. Only the selected cells will be
arranged.
Sorting Based on Multiple Columns
1. Select the cells, rows, or columns to be sorted.
2. In the Editing group of the Home tab, click on Sort & Filter > Custom Sort...
The Sort window will appear.
3. If your selection contains column headers and you do not want to include
them, check the box beside My data has headers.
4. Indicate how you want your data to be sorted. Click on the arrow beside the
Sort by field. Click on the header name of the column you want to be
arranged. Then in the next column, indicate the basis of sorting. In the third
column, click on the order you want the data to be sorted.
5. To include another level—that is, another column—click on the Add Level
button, and then indicate your preferences.
6. To reorder the levels, just click on the Up or Down button. Just remember, the
topmost level will be the first to be sorted.
7. When you are done, click on OK. The cells will be arranged accordingly.
