This is the art and science of
preparing and dispensing
medications and the provision of
drug-related information to the
public.
Mission (APhA):
Serving society as the profession
responsible for the appropriate use
of medications, devices and
services to achieve optimal
therapeutic outcomes.
Functions:
a. the interpretation of prescriptions orders
b. compounding, labeling and dispensing of drugs
and devices
c. drug product selection and drug utilization reviews
d. patient monitoring and intervention
e. provision of cognitive services related to use of
medications and devices
 Pharmacists
educated and licensed to dispense drugs and to provide
drug information
 experts on medications
 most accessible member of the health care team
and often are the first source of assistance and
advice on many common ailments and health care
matters.
