 Promotional photography
- Promotional photography is photos of products or
places which are used for promotional purposes.
- It is used to help promote a product, or if it’s a place,
it is used to help make the place seem more appealing and attract
the viewer to go there.
- Examples of promotional photography are seen in
magazines or on busses.
 Uses/purposes of promotional photography
- The purpose of promotional photography is to help sell a
product or place.
- They are promoting by placing a product/place directly in the
audiences eyes.
- Public transportation such as busses or trains uses
promotional photography posters to sell a product/place to
commuters.
Fashion photography
The definition of fashion photography is a genre of
photography that is devoted to displaying clothing and
other fashion items.
- The photography will usually feature a model wearing
the items to display.
- Fashion photography has existed for as long as
photography itself, and is very common in magazines and
posters.
 Uses/purposes of fashion photography
The main purpose of fashion photography is branding. Models, location,
props and other aspects are very significant in fashion photography.

The goal of fashion photography is to create something unique and make

the model stand out.

Some examples of fashion photography are in catalogues,

magazines, advertisements and posters.
Portraiture
• Portraiture is the process of drawing or taking a picture of a person.
• This is more of a common type of photography that usually has a
main focus on a persons face and facial expression.
• The three main types of portraiture photography is:
• - Close ups
• - Upper body shots
• - Environmental shots
Uses/purposes of portraiture
• The purpose of portraiture is to capture and put emphasis around the
persons face.
• Portraits don’t require models
• They are usually used for occasions such as weddings, holidays and
school photos.
• Uses for portraiture include:
- For websites
- To be displayed at home
- In newspapers/magazines
Architectural photography
• Architectural photography is a type of photography that mainly
focuses on capturing photographs of buildings and similar structures.
• Architectural photographers are usually trained and skilled in the use
of specialist techniques and equipment.
Use/purposes to architectural photography:
• Architectural photography is mainly used for commercial purposes.
• They are used by developers to publish online or in leaflets and
portfolios.
• These photographs are used for:
- Selling properties (real estate)
- Documenting building progress
- Being published on a company website
