CODOMINANCE

 Is the results when one allele is not dominant

over the other.

 The resulting heterozygotes exhibits the traits

of both parents.
Example:
Roan Fur Bull
RR = all red hairs

WW = all white hairs

RW = red and white hairs

together
Let’s Try!
Objectives:
 List the genotypes of the chicken in the given problem
 Diagram and complete a Punnett square
 Give phenotypic percentages of the offspring
In some chickens, the gene for feather color is controlled by codominance.
The allele for black is CB and the allele for white is CW. The heterozygous
phenotype is known as erminette.
Take Note

Codominance is the result of two alleles sharing
their territory equally, so no color is dominant; they
simply share traits, representing their color.
Remember, codominance is all about sharing space
and being independent.
Pls. Answer: ½ crosswise
1. Predict the phenotypic ratios of offspring when a homozygous white cow is
crossed with a roan bull.
2. What should the genotypes & phenotypes for parent cattle be if a farmer
wanted only cattle with red fur?
3. A cross between a black cat & a tan cat produces a tabby pattern (black &
tan fur together).
a) What pattern of inheritance does this illustrate?
b) What percent of kittens would have tan fur if a tabby cat is crossed with a
black cat?

Human blood types are determined by genes that follow the CODOMINANCE pattern
of inheritance. There are two dominant alleles (IA and IB ) and one recessive allele (i).

Blood Type Genotype Can Donate blood to: Can receive blood
(Phenotype) from:
O ii A, B, AB and O O
(universal donor)
AB IAIB O, AB A, B, AB and O
(universal receiver)
A IAIA or IAi AB, A O, A
B IBIB or IBi AB, B O,B
What’s your blood type?
