ACTUATOR
What is an actuator?
An actuator is a piece of equipment that produces movement when
given a signal.
Actuators are used in the computer control of an environment,
industrial automation and in robotics.

Meaning of Actuator
Devices that control the movement of mechanical action of a
machine indirectly rather than directly or by hand.

Actuators can be of three types

Pneumatic (work by air pressure),
Electrical (work by electrical signal),
Hydraulic (work by liquid pressure).

 Classification 1
 Air to Open
 Air to Close

 Classification 2
• Open-close type (On-Off type).
• Single acting (Air to Open, Spring to Close )
• Double Acting (Air to Open, Air to Close )
• Controlling type.

9
SOLENOID
General solenoid valve consists of two major
component parts:-
1)The driver (solenoid operator)
2)The flow controller (valve)

OPEARTING VOLTAGE - 230/110 V AC

- 24/48/240 V DC

Controlling type:
The 4-20 mA signal is converted to
0 to 100% Valve movement.
Parts:
1. I/P converter – Converts 4-20mA signal to 3-15 Psi
2. Positioner – 3-15 Psi signal is converted to 0-100 % Valve
movement
3. Position Feedback Transmitter – Gives 4-20mA based on
valve position
4. Air Lock Relay – to retain the present position of the valve in the
absence of supply air.
5. Air Filter cum Regulator – filtering the incoming air.
