Reading speed is a technique to improve reading quickly by calculating the number of words read per minute. To calculate reading speed, count the number of words in a passage and time how long it takes to read. Then divide the number of words by the reading time in minutes to determine the reading speed in words per minute. An example calculation shows dividing the number of words read by the reading time in seconds and multiplying by 60 to determine a reading speed of 98 words per minute.

How to calculate the words per minute
Step 1
 Figure out how many words are in the passage you’re
reading before you start.
Step 2
 Set the timer or stopwatch.
Step 3
 Start reading. Ensure that you’re reading at a normal rate,
and that you comprehend the material.
Step 4
 Take the number of words in your selection and divide it
by the number of minutes.
Formula for Reading speed
Reading speed = No. of words in the
passage/reading time(sec) x 60
Example:
131/80x100=98 wpm
Reading speed= average
