Metaparadigm
of Nursing
Nursing
 “As a science, designates the term nursing
as a noun and signifies that nursing is an
organized body of abstract knowledge. But
Rogers also stated that she believed that
nursing is an art. This has been
consistently reiterated throughout the
history of the Science of Unitary Human
Beings.
"Nursing seeks to promote symphonic
interaction between the environment
and man, to strengthen the
coherence and integrity of the human
beings, and to direct and redirect
patterns of interaction between man
and his environment for the
realization of maximum health
potential".
Nursing
 Learned profession, both a
science and an art.
 Exist for the care of people and
the life process of humans.
Goal:

“maintenance and promotion of

health, prevention of disease,
nursing diagnosis, intervention
and rehabilitation encompass the
scope of nursing goal.”
Person
 Defines unitary human being as an
“irreducible, indivisible, pandimensional
energy field identified by pattern and
manifesting characteristics that are specific
to the whole.
 Man as a unit
Health
It is an expression of the life
process; they are the
"characteristics and behavior
emerging out of the mutual,
simultaneous interaction of the
human and environmental fields"
Health
 Uses the term passive health to
symbolize the wellness and the
absence of disease and major
illness.
Environment
It is an "irreducible,
pandimensional energy field
identified by pattern and
integral with the human field"
