 Mediastinal widening
 Specific findings:
 Right paratracheal density equal or greater
density than the aortic arch
 Loss of the aortic arch definition
 Left apical cap
 Right paratracheal density equal or greater density
than the aortic arch
 Loss of the aortic arch definition
 Left apical cap

 Most important puzzle piece is the history of


trauma.
Traumatic Aortic Injury
 Most injuries occur at the aortic isthmus
(proximal descending aorta, just distal to the
origin of the left subclavian artery).
 Direct findings:
 Abnormal aortic contours
 Sudden change in caliber of the aorta
 Extravasation of contrast, indicating
significant injury.
