 Sign yourself up for a Bloomberg account on the
terminal OR register for free access online
with your UA email address at
portal.bloombergforeducation.com
(free through December 2021)
 Put yourself through Bloomberg text and/or video
training
 Take the online exam for each Module
 Once you pass all exams, save the Bloomberg
Certificate for your file
 Email a copy of your Bloomberg Certificate to me

The Challenge: Limited Resources

 There are only three Bloomberg


terminals in the Graduate Computer
Lab (Room 337).
 All FIN 521 students are taking
completing the certification.
 Other courses and students use the
terminals.

especially for Stock Trak simulation for
classes!

 This is the only resource for
undergraduate students so move to the
Graduate Computer Lab if it the room or
terminals gets busy.

 Because the Graduate Lab (and FMC as well)
has many uses, please use headphones when
watching the Bloomberg training videos
 It is theoretically open during normal hours
(just walk in).
 Evenings and weekends your CatCard will
get you in.
 Three (3) terminals, be aware of other
users.
First

 You will need to establish a login for


yourself.
 To do this, you will need your cell
phone or laptop, for verification
purposes.
 It takes five minutes to set yourself
up.
Intro - Login

 Hit the red <Conn Dflt> key.


 Do NOT use a course login. You want
to have your own!
 You will need your cell phone, Text
message will send you a validating
code.
BMC is your friend
 The text and/or video training
resides in the Bloomberg Market
Concepts section of the software
(hence BMC).
 You will be going through the
lessons/videos listed on this the left
side of this screen menu.
Step One

 You tackle the Econ Module first.

 First the lessons followed by the


quizzes.

 When you finish the econ module


that unlocks the remainder.
Then, The Market Sectors

 You must complete the Econ Module


before you attempt the Market
Sectors modules.
 Same sequence: Study the
written/video material, take the
quizzes/exams.
A few basics to get you started

 Most of this is intuitive, but there


are a few keys that need to know so
you don’t get totally stranded.
Yellow function keys
When you enter the ticker, DON”T forget to
use the following keys

 F2 <GOVT> Government bond calculators, news, yields, and prices


 F3 <CORP> Corporate bond calculators, news, yields and prices
 F4 <MTGE> Mortgage securities and news
 F5 <M-MKT> Money market yields and offerings
 F6 <MUNI> Municipal bond calendars and yields
 F7 <PFD> Preferred securities
 F8 <EQUITY> Equity news, prices, and market tracking information
 F9 <CMDTY> Commodity news and contract information
 F10 <INDEX> Market and economy tracking statistics
 F11 <CRNCY> Currency rates and information
 F12 <CLIENT> Portfolio creation and analytics
 Mutual Funds can be found under the Equity menu. Data is furnished
by Morningstar.
Okay that’s it
 You should now be ready to head to
the Graduate Computer Lab and
sign up for Bloomberg.
 If the terminal is shut down, after
powering up, the front end sign in
(on the blue screen) information is:
 User: Bloomberg
 Password: FIN_bloom!
