Categories of translation (Jakobson 1959/2000:114)

• 1.Inter-lingual translation, or translation proper( 语


际翻译 ) : an interpretation of verbal signs by means
of other language;
• 2.Inter-semiotic translation ( 语 符 翻 译 ) :
interpretation of verbal signs by means of signs of
non-verbal sign system.
• 3.Intra-lingual translation ( 语 内 翻 译 ): rewording,
interpretation of verbal signs by means of other signs
of the same language;
