My Internship Experience

By: Jory Richardson

Why I choose an I chose to do an internship because I wanted to
gain experience in a field/industry that I have a
internship… passion for.

I also was already working on a seminar-like

service project to become an Eagle Scout, and
didn’t want to interfere with that.

My internship involved me going to the CMW

office and working and a wide variety of
interesting things.
Where I interned at... I interned at the Central Machine Works office.

This office is 4 Corners Sourcing main office in

the United States. The owners involved in 4
Corners also own CMW, and Red Bluff Partners.

I was involved with all three companies in various

ways.
My Goals - project management skills
- problem solving skills
- experience in real estate (development)
- experience in the venue business
- teamwork in the workplace
- experience dealing with bureaucratic
systems

I want to be an entrepreneur when I am older,

and learning in such a good environment is a
great all around starting place.
I also wanted to bring My plan to contribute was through my
knowledge of technology (coding, general IT),
my skills to the my knowledge of digital media, and my work
companies. ethic.

All while learning as much as possible!

My Experience
What Got Done… I kept track of my progress through my reflection
journal, where every week I wrote about the things that
I had did, what I accomplished, and what was
happening in the future.

I kept a log of my hours as well.

Red Bluff Hotel At the start of my internship I largely worked with the
construction of the new Red Bluff Hotel.

A large part of my work was filing various documents

in order to get the demolition of the old auto body
shop and warehouse. I also conducted sight
documentation, pulled tax documents with the city,
cleaned up the sight for investors, and communicated
with various inspectors and contractors to get quotes.
Yes,
Gentrification? But…
Recognizing Perspectives
Gentrification in Austin is caused by the mass influx
of people of all economic backgrounds moving to the
Austin Metropolitan Area. As well as other factors.

Not by a local business demolishing an abandoned

building to build a hotel.

I am acknowledging this is an example of

gentrification, but the process in ATX started a while
ago and is a much deeper issue rooted in American
Society/History and Capitalism as a whole.
Central At Central Machine Works I was involved with
repurposing materials from the on going demolition to

Machine improve the beer garden.

Works From this experience I gained knowledge about the

Brewery process of coordinating with contractors and getting
quotes.

Responsiveness and proactiveness is key!

Red Iron Stage The red iron stage covering is still a work in progress.

The Shipping Container Bar is fully operational.

CAD Recently as the process of dismantling the demosite
has slowed down I have started to learn CAD.

CAD is Computer Assisted Design is used by 4C to

design products.

Learning this skill is very useful in the sourcing

industry.
Challenges My biggest challenge was fighting my procrastination.

I also had trouble with CAD.

For this I spent a lot of time researching and watching

tutorial videos.
Conclusion Through my 4 months of being an intern I have learned a lot.
I am so grateful for this amazing opportunity to learn so
many different things and gain new experiences and skills.

The biggest thing I learned is that if you are passionate

about something you will not get burnt out. I also learned
that if you want to succeed in the business world, you can’t
procrastinate and must have a lot of patience.

My biggest kills I have learned are CAD, and Project

Management

I want to be an entrepreneur and this has exponentially

helped me achieve that goal.
