Racism

David. M
What Is Racism ?

Racism is prejudice, discrimination, or hostility

directed at a person or persons because they belong to
a specific racial or ethnic group, usually a minority or
stigmatised group.
ANTI-RACISM

To be anti-racist is to think nothing is behaviorally wrong or right with any of

the racial groups. Whenever the antiracist sees individuals behaving positively
or negatively, the anti-racist sees exactly that, individuals behaving positively or
negatively, not representatives of whole races.
Quotes

“I plan to stand by nonviolence, because I have found it to be a

philosophy of life that regulates not only my dealings in the
struggle for racial justice, but also my dealings with people, and
with my own self.”

—Martin Luther King Jr.

Quotes
“If you want peace, work for justice.

—Pope Paul VI

“You cannot shake hands with a clenched fist.”

—Indira Gandhi

How to help?
● Share stories of discrimination and
racism with Stop Hate

Visit a church that has many members of a different race. Understand

how much in common you have with those who are of a different racial
background.

● Be willing to share the political power and resources with all

people.

● Read news articles intelligently. Try to confirm all news articles

with other sources, to ensure you do not draw conclusions
based on biased news stories.
FUN FACTS
● Prejudice in Canada dates back to the beginnings of its
settlement. It can be seen in the relations between
Indigenous peoples and European colonizers that arose
in the 17th and 18th centuries

● 27 million people live in slavery—more than twice the

number during the peak of the slave trade.

Racism is wrong but people tend to take it out of
proportion. Just be careful of what you say and
don’t take remarks the wrong way.
