DEFINITIONS
MULTIMEDIA
Session 1
Definitions according to experts
:

" Multimedia is interaction with

various forms of media supported by
computers. The computer is a
multimedia device as well as a
medium." (CARTWRIGHT et al. 1999,
hal. 1)

“A tool that can create dynamic and

interactive presentations that combine
text, graphics, animation, audio and
video” (Robin dan Linda, 2001)
MULTIMEDIA
Session 1
Definitions according to experts :

“Utilization of
computers to create and
combine text, graphics,
audio, video, using tools
that allow users to
interact, create, and
communicate”
(Hofstetter 2001)
ELEMENTS
MULTIMEDIA

Multimedia Element
(Robin dan Linda, 2001)

• Text
• Images
• Movies/video

• Sound/audio
MULTIMEDIA

Images
Two-dimensional or
illustration

show more clearly what
certain information is all
about (diagrams, pictures).

MULTIMEDIA
Session 1

Animation
The illusion of motion
created by the successive
display of static elements
images.

  In multimedia, animation
is used to further enhance /
enrich the user experience
in understanding the
information conveyed to
them.
MULTIMEDIA
Session 1

Sound /
Audio.
Produced by vibration, as
felt by the sense of hearing.
In multimedia, audio can
come in the form of
speeches, sound effects
and also music scores.
MULTIMEDIA
Session 1

Movie/Video
Is a technology for capturing,
recording, processing,
transmitting, and reconstructing
moving images.

The video is more towards

photo realistic sequential / live
recording when compared to
animation.

Video also requires a lot of

storage space. So plan carefully
before you will use it.
Multimedia Pros:
The Computer Research and Publishing Institute, Computer
Technology Research, states that people are only able to
remember 20% of what they see and 30% of what they hear.
But people can remember 50% of what was seen and heard
and 70% of what was seen, heard and done at once
Sistem Multimedia ?
Multimedia allows computer users to get output in a much richer
form than conventional media tables and graphics.

Users can view three-dimensional images, photos, moving videos,

or animations, and hear stereo sound, sound recording or music.
4 important components of the MM System
a. There must be a computer that coordinates what is seen and heard,
which interacts with us.

b. There must be a link that connects us with information.

4 komponen penting Sistem MM
c. There must be a navigation tool that guides us, exploring
interconnected information networks.

d. Multimedia provides a place for us to collect, process, and

communicate our own information and ideas. If one component
is missing, it is not multimedia.
