What is INTONATION
• Ups and down of pitch
• On a particular word
• Usually at the end of sentence
Types of Intonation
• Rising Intonation
• It describes how voice raise at the
end of sentence.
• It is common use in yes or no ques
tions,for request or in complete utt
erances.
• For example
• Would you like a cup of tea.
• Are you thirsty?
• Are u reading?
• Open the door please.
• Give me a.pen please.
• It's a very nice book isn't it?
• I like a cup of tea,juice and milk.
Falling Intonation
• It describes how the voice falls on
the final stressed syllable of a phra
se or a group of words.
• It is very common in wh questions,
ordinary statements
• Exclamatory sentences,Imperative
