NEOPLASIA
A neoplasm,is "an abnormal mass of
tissue the growth of which exceeds and
is uncoordinated with that of the normal
tissues and persists in the same
excessive manner after the cessation of
the stimuli which evoked the change."
CERVICAL METAPLASIA
Metaplasia is a reversible change in
which one adult cell type (epithelial or
mesenchymal) is replaced by another
adult cell type.

A gradual transition from glandular

endocervical columnar cells to the
squamous type.
Seen in
 Epidermidisation (squamous
metaplasia of endocervix)

 Cervical erosion

 Polypi

It’s a benign condition

MORPHOLOGICAL FEATURE OF
METAPLASIA
Size of parabasal cells

Oval vesicular nucleus (more elongated)

Some vacuolation
DYSPLASIA
Dysplasia occur between cells of benign
hyperplasia and frank carcinoma

Dysplasia is Histological term describing

architectural abnormalities in tissue
DYSKARYOSIS
Term applied to cells that exhibit
nuclear changes consistent with
malignancy, while maintaining a normal
cytoplasm and N/C ratio

Cytological term describing the nuclear

abnormalities

Not synonymous with Dysplasia

DYSKARYOSIS
The dividing line between severe
dysplasia and Carcinoma-in-situ is not
distinct

Less dyskaryotic cells in Carcinoma-in-

situ

More dyskarotic cells in malignancy

Dyskaryosis of columnar endocervical

cell is less common
