THE GURUKUL
SYSTEM OF
EDUCATION
When a boy is 7 years old, he is sent to
a gurukul. Gurukuls are the house of
an guru or a teacher. Gurukuls are
normally situated deep in the forests.
They stayed there till he was 25 years
old.
IMPORTANCE OF GURUKUL SYSTEM!
• The main focus of the Gurukuls was imparting
students in a natural surrounding where the
shishyas lived with each other with shishyas and
discipline. The essential teachings are with
language, Science, Maths through group
discussions, self learning etc. Activities such as
yoga, meditation, mantra chanting etc
generates positivity and peace of mind makes
them fit.
COMPLETION OF
EDUCATION
After completing their education, the
students paid guru Dakshin to the
guru dakshina by completing a task
the guru told him to do or by giving
money.
THE CASTE SYSTEM

• In the Later Vedic Period, the caste system did not exist in it’s rigid form.
• Society was divided into various classes.
• There were four classes: Brahmans, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas and the Shudras.
THE RULING CLASS/WARRING CLASS

VAISHYAS AND SHUDRAS

The Vaishyas are the artisians,traders and farmers.


The Shudras are the unducated workers which served all three
classes and do menial work.
