WHAT IS REDOX TITRATION.

• A redox titration is a type of titration based on a redox reaction between the

analyte and titrant. It may involve the use of a redox indicator and/or a
potentiometer.

STANDARDIZATION.

• Standardization is the process of determining the exact concentration of a

solution.
OBJECTION.

• The objection of this experiment is to determine the strength of sodium

thiosulphate.

INDICATOR & IMPORTANCE.

• In this experiment “ Starch “ is used as an indicator.

• Indicators in a titration are use to identify the equivalence or the end point of
a reaction where PH change occurs.
REACTION.

• This experiment is based on oxidation and reduction.

EXPERIMENT.
• 4 ml of 12% potassium iodide (Kl) solution.
• Make it about 50ml.
• Add 1g of NaHCO3 & dissolve the salt.
• Add about 4 ml conc HCl acid.
• Add 10 ml standard K2 Cr2 O7.
• Keep the solution in the dark for about 5 minuets.
• Dilute the solution about 100ml.
• Titrate the liberated iodine with sodium thiosulphate solution from bureette until the brown color fades.
• Add 1 ml starch solution and continue.
• Titrate by adding sodium thiosulphate soluction until color changes from deep blue to light blue.
• This is the end point.
DATA.

• Standardization of Na2S2O3 solution with standard K2Ce2O7 solution.

CALCULATION.

• Calculate the strength of sodium thiosulphate solution using the following

equation. V1×S1 = V2×S2
DATA.

• Standardization of Na2S2O3 solution with standand K2Cr2O7 solution.

RESULT & ERROR.

• Result : Determined strength of Na2S2O3 solution is 2.95m.

Error : Experimental Value ~ Real value ÷ Real value × 100%

DISCUSSION.
• As the color change of the titrationof Na2S203 with K2Cr2O7 is veryconfusing, the
end point of thetitration may not have been properlydetermined.
CONCLUSION.

• From the above experiment it was evident that sodium thiosulphate can be
effectively standardized by potassium dichromate anf iodide with
hydrochloric acid and starch as the visual indicator.
