HISTORY:
• Vernier calliper was invented in 1631 by French mathematician Pierre
Vernier.
• The Vernier calliper is used to take measurements that are accurate to
within 0.001 of an inch or 0.02 of a millimeter.

DEFINITION:
A measuring device that consists of a main scale with a fixed jaw and
a sliding jaw with an attached Vernier.

VERNIER CALLIPER
TYPES OF VERNIER CALLIPER:
These are use for making measurements that are accurate to a hundredth of a millimeter.
It can be used to measure internal as well as external dimensions, and depths of features like steps
and blind holes, in small components.
The advantage to using a vernier calliper is that the measurement is going to be more accurate.
Rulers and tape measures are not accurate enough when a precise measurement required.
