What is the intellectual revolution all about?

▪ The May Fourth Movement in China was directed towards national


independence, individual liberation and social and cultural
reconstruction. A drive to reach the common people was launched as
part of this movement. The decline of traditional ethics and the
family system intensified. Women's emancipation gained traction
and vernacular literature arose.

▪ intellectual revolution and sociopolitical reform movement that


occurred  in 1917–21.
Who are the key figures in the revolution?
▪ Chen Dixui
– he was the communist party’s first General
Secretary from 1921-1927.

– Chen was a key role in the early Republic
of China's Xinhai Revolution, which ousted the
Qing Dynasty, as well as the May Fourth
movement for scientific
and democratic advancements.
How did the revolution advance modern science
and scientific thinking at the time?

▪ By that time students and the other participants in


the protests already had their critical thinking as
they make actions to have independence as an
individual and not to be constrained by the
governments law.
▪ Their studies of liberalism, pragmatism, nationalism
, anarchist, and socialism served as a foundation for 
criticizing traditional Chinese ethics, philosophy, reli
gion, and social and political institutions.
What controversies met the revolution?

current conditions, neglect of the study of
history, and neglect of the application of
Marxism-Leninism, all constitute an
extremely bad style of work. Its spread
has harmed many of our comrades.
