7 ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF IN THE

BUILDING AND OUTSIDE OF THE BUILDING SUBSTATION

 Currently we have two (2) types of substation which is indoor and outdoor types.

 Generally, for substation comparison, particular aspect that we compare usually:

1. The space required
2. Time required for erection
3. Future process for extension
4. Finding fault location
5. Safety
6. Initial Cost
7. Operation
IN THE BUILDING SUBSTATION (INDOOR)

Advantages and Disadvantages of in the building substation (Indoor):

Advantages
 Less land space required, best suit to limited land area.
 Easy operation, control systems under single building.
 Safer to human and animal around.

Disadvantages
 Future extension will be difficult because of fixed building structure
 Initial cost higher
OUTSIDE OF THE BUILDING SUBSTATION (OUTDOOR)

Advantages and Disadvantages of outside of the building substation (Outdoor):

Advantages
 Future extension much easier.
 Identification for fault location easier.
 Initial cost cheaper, only uses open land area.

Disadvantages
 Difficult overall operational
 Possibility danger to human and animal due to open area and easy access by
animal.
