system
By: Gujelde
A colloid system is a type of
mixture in which one part is
dispersed constantly
throughout another. Colloid
systems are usually formed when
one part is dispersed through
another, but does not combine to
form a solution.
dispersed phase
The dispersed phase is the component
present in small proportion and is just
like a solute in solution. Thus in the
colloidal solution of silver in water,
silver is the dispersed phase.
dispersion medium
is component present in excess and is just
like a solvent in solution. Thus in the
colloidal solution of silver in water, the
dispersion medium is water.

5 types of colloids
Sol-A sol is a colloid made out of solid particles in a
continuous liquid medium
Aerosol-An aerosol is a suspension of fine solid particles
or liquid droplets in air or another gas. Aerosols can be
natural or anthropogenic. Examples of natural aerosols
are fog or mist, dust, forest exudates, and geyser steam
Emulsion-An emulsion is a mixture of two or more
liquids that are normally immiscible owing to liquid-liquid
phase separation. Emulsions are part of a more general
class of two-phase systems of matter called colloids.
Foam-Foam is an object formed by trapping pockets of
gas in a liquid or solid. A bath sponge and the head on a
glass of beer are examples of foams. In most foams, the
volume of gas is large,
Gel-A gel is a semi-solid that can have properties
ranging from soft and weak to hard and tough
