Principles in Recommender System for e-Commerce Platforms
Background Numerous algorithms are being used in the recommender systems.  Many platforms are working towards a hybrid
recommender system to minimize the drawbacks of individual mechanisms and leverage the advantages from multiple
mechanisms working synchronously.

Problem statement Existing key challenges on the recommender system including cold-start problems, data sparsity and recommendation
personalisation. However,  overwhelming solutions that may not be significant in e-Commerce context

Research objectives • To propose a simplified framework that clarifies main principles of recommender system for e-Commerce platforms; 
• To build a simplified architecture of the recommender system based on the framework proposed; and  
• To test the effectiveness of the proposed recommender system.

Research questions • What are the main principles of a recommender system appropriate for e-commerce platforms?


• How are these principles being implemented in the recommender system used for e-commerce platforms?
• What is the effectiveness of the proposed recommender system? 

Research deliverables • Framework for main principle in recommender systems for e-commerce
• Implementation plan for the recommender system
• Performance and effectiveness measurement of the proposed system

Research Methodology Quantitative (experiment)
Evaluate performance of the recommender system using sample dataset from an e-commerce company
