INTRODUCTION

 Corrosion is an electrochemical process, in which

deterioration or degradation of materials occurs due to
interaction with environment.
 Formation of rust is most common example of
corrosion.
 Corrosion can be classified as, high temperature or
low temperature corrosion, dry or wet corrosion and
external corrosion or internal corrosion.
According to NACE International Report
2018:
Corrosion Impact affects about 2–4% of the
gross national product of World Every Year..

 The total annual cost of corrosion in the oil

and gas industries is estimated to be $1.372
billion in 2018.
 Corrosion cost was around $3.7 billion for
petroleum refining and around $1.7 billion
for chemical and petrochemical industries.

CORROSION INHIBITOR

 A corrosion Inhibitor is a chemical compound that delays/slows/prevents a chemical reaction. It may

also be called a negative catalyst.
 A corrosion inhibitor decreases the rate of oxidation of metal.
 Corrosion inhibitors are considered as most economical way to prevent flowline/production lines
from internal corrosion.

JUSTIFICATION OF WORK

HCL is used in oil well acidizing, and cause to

corrosion of pipelines.

Research has been conducted using different

inhibitors. Guar gum is evaluated as efficient
corrosion inhibitor in many environments. But still
investigation for HCL is not conducted.

Further, to achieve sustainability in industries there

is an extreme need to fully introduce effective
“Green” inhibitors - which are readily available in
nature and cost efficient, that will help to achieve
SDG’s.
