Question.

To what significance is ammonia nitrate to

water disinfection? What is the standard limit of
nitrogen content in drinking water. And why?

Ammonium nitrogen comes from sewage and
landfill. It is very toxic to aquatic life high
concentration of those nutrient may indicate a
well construction problem or an
environmental impact in the vicinity of the
water supply.
Nitrate and ammonium nitrogen are measured
for all surface and ground water sample.
All nitrogen that exists as ammonium ion or in the equilibrium
NH4+ NH3+ + H+

Is condensed to be ammonia nitrogen. Ammonium ion exist in
equilibrium with ammonium and hydrogen

Significance of Ammonium nitrogen in water disinfection
Ammonium nitrogen on water disinfection is that, Ammonium
nitrogen when found in water it indicates that water has been
recently polluted and therefore water is dangerous to the
users.

Limit of Nitrogen content in water should not
exceed 10mg per liter, because,
Consuming too much nitrogen content (nitrate )
can affect how blood carries oxygen and can
cause methemoglobinemia. It also known as
blue baby syndrome. This illness can cause skin
to turn bluish in color and can result in serious
illness to death.
Therefore drinking water with levels of nitrogen
at or below 10mg per liter is considered safe for
everyone.
