Indian National Congress(INC) is popularly known as the Congress
Party. It is one of the oldest parties of the world. It was founded in 1885. Under the leadership of Jawaharlal Nehru, the party sought to build a modern secular democratic republic in India. Indian National Congress ruled India from independence till 1977 and then from 1980 to 1989 then from 1991 to 1996 and from 2004 to 2014. Now it’s support has declined but it continues to be present throughout the country. Currently it is the principal opposition party in Lok Sabha.
