Why boycott China?
• The main reason for boycotting Chinese things are the chaos of
COVID 19 and the tension of India-China border.
• The million and millions of dollar that China earns from Indian
market are used to buy ammunition, arms ,guns against India itself.
The money spent by Indians in buying Chinese products is ultimately
used against India and Indian soldiers at the border.
• In the world of globalisation, it is not easy to completely prevent
any other country from selling its products in the domestic market,
but citizens are free to accept or reject as per the choice.
• Tiktok, a Chinese app has got the highest number of users in India
owing to its wide usage. And thus a huge amount of revenue of
tiktok(and thus of China) is earned from India.
IMPACT OF CHEAP CHINESE PRODUCTS ON THE INDIAN ECONOMY

• Here are the few negative impact of Chinese product on Indian economy:-
i. Huge currency transfer
ii. Our local industries are suffering
iii. Joblessness
iv. Crime and migration
v. Downsizing our economy by Chinese product
vi. Social instability
vii. No consumer for local product
viii.Decrease in world rating leads to poverty, weakening our defence,
standard of living.

• Chinese product are affecting not just the domestic business and
industrial market, but also the export market of India as many people
are replacing Indian good with Chinese ones.
• Few points to support the concerns are:
 Chinese crackers contain sulphur which is more dangerous than
nitrate and during Diwali they create a lot of pollution in the
country.
 Apart from crackers, Chinese toys are also impacting the Indian toy
industry. Nearly 40% of Indian toy companies have been closed in the
last five years and rest 20% are struggling to break even.
 If we see the condition of Indian market , we would find that in
every sector there is a superiority of Chinese goods.
A BIT OF CHINA IN EVERY PRODUCT
India is the largest importer of Chinese goods and services. India
imports from China nearly seven times more than it exports to
that region.
In almost every product there is a little bit of China.
Chinese smartphone brands currently power over $8 billion of
India’s smartphone market by 51%.
China exported well over 60% of electronic products and
component in 2018-2019.
The number of items we import from China is huge:
Consumer durables such as electrical devices mobile phones, plastic
objects, cars, solar cells, important medicinal drugs including
tuberculosis, antibodies and many other.

CAN INDIA REALLY BOYCOTT CHINESE PRODUCTS?
CAN INDIA REALLY BOYCOTT CHINESE PRODUCTS?

After the launch of ‘Make in India’ many Chinese firms have

installed their units in India, which has employed thousands of
workers in India. If India boycotts Chinese products than these
companies may face pressure from Chinese officials to stop their
production in India, which may leave hundreds of workers
unemployed.
If India plans to boycott Chinese products than finding a
substitute which can match the cost and availability is nearly
impossible. Thus the GDP of India may contract.
INDIA-CHINA TRADE COUNTER
WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES?
Currently poor infrastructure(road, railways ,network, supply chain)
Political instability
Beaurocracy/corruption
Not appropriate ecosystem on manufacturing
Less fund on R& D and technology
Social inactivity and Indian belief system
IS THERE ANY ALTERNATIVE?

• Recently Sonam Wangchuk answered many questions on boycotting

Chinese products. He said that customer is the king. He gave a mantra to
boycott made in China software in a week, hardware in a year, finished
and non-essential products in a year and essential products etc in
coming year in a systematic way.
• When we saw the word “made in China” in our purchasing, first think
about the alternative product, it may be made in India, Japan, Taiwan
or Korea etc. Purchase that alternative product.
• Gradually it will be habit of Indians to avoid Chinese products and
shopkeeper will order the products from some other country
VOCAL FOR LOCAL CAMPAIGN
• Narendra Modi’s new Vocal for Local started when he
announced it during his speech while addressing the nation
about Lockdown 4.0. The Vocal for local campaign started with
an aim to make India self-reliant. Thus it has a implicitly set up
a country narrative to boycott China services and good.
• The campaign will also encourage citizens to look for Made in
India tags just as they check manufacturing date and mrp of
items before buying any product.
• #BoycottChineseproduct, #BoycottChineseapps etc hashtags are trending in
India.
HOW CAN WE REPLACE CHINESE ALTERNATIVES?

Develop ecosystem like make in India, startup India.

Political stability and willingness.
Increase awareness and interest among youth
Loosen the land, forest law, custom law and export
law
Easy loan facility, credit, tax relaxation
Good marketing by government
Freedom in society less impact of belief system
