⦁ India is the world's largest milk-producing nation with a gross output of 175 billion liters
in 2019.
⦁ 70 million farmers are directly involved in dairying in India.
⦁ From the last three decades, the growth of dairy industry is around 5% per Annum.
⦁ The ‘white revolution’ started in the year 1970.
⦁ Because of the ‘white revolution’, milk production grew from 21 million tons in 1972 to
nearly 69 million tons in 1996.
⦁ Right now the Indian dairy industry is contributing 5.3% to India's agricultural GDP with
milk as a leading agricultural product of the country and 4.2% in over all GDP of the
India in the year 2020.

USD 328 billion.

trade.
⦁ World milk production is projected to increase by 177 million tons by
2025, at an average growth rate of 1.8% per annum in the next 10 years.
⦁ Over one out of four of the 570 million farm holdings worldwide, that
is over 150 million farmers, keep at least one milk animal, including
cows, buffaloes, goats and sheep.
