INTRODUCTION

Cyberspace is defined as the dynamic and virtual space that connects the different
computer systems. Like there are innumerable neurons present in the brain, cyberspace
has countless connections and networks that exist between the computer systems.

Example : sending an email to your friend. It means that we sent a message through
cyberspace.

It typically involves a large computer network made up of many worldwide computer


subnetworks that employ TCP/IP protocol to aid in communication and data exchange
activities.
USE OF CYBERSPACE

● It makes everything possible through the internet.


● Military, finance, or even education today everything is connected to cyberspace.
● The internet has made it efficient to store and to handle data.
● It has made man’s life organized and more systematic.
● e-banking or booking tickets or even to work online, cyberspace is everywhere.
Cybersquatting

INTRODUCTION-
Cybersquatting is the registering of a domain name of organization or person
without their authorization.

Cybersquatting registrants obtain and use the domain name with the bad intent to
profit from the goodwill of the actual trademark owner.

The History of Cybersquatting


Some entrepreneurs registered the names of well-known companies as domain
names, with the intent of selling the names back to the companies. Panasonic, Fry's
Electronics, Hertz and Avon were among the "victims" of cybersquatters.

Cyberwarfare
INTRODUCTION
cyberwarfare is the use of cyber attacks against a nation-state, causing it significant harm,
up to and including physical warfare, disruption of vital computer systems.

cyber attacks perpetrated by one nation-state on another, it can also describe attacks by
terrorist groups or hacker groups aimed at furthering the goals of particular nations.

Goals of Cyber warfare


The goal of cyberwarfare is to "weaken, disrupt or destroy" another nation. To achieve
their goals, cyberwarfare programs target a wide spectrum of objectives that might
harm national interests.
Types of cyber warfare attacks

Destabilization - In recent years, cybercriminals have been attacking governments


through critical infrastructure.

Sabotage - Cyber attacks that sabotage government computer systems can be


used to support conventional warfare efforts. Such attacks can block official
government communications, contaminate digital systems, enable the theft of vital
intelligence and threaten national security.

Data theft - Cyber criminals hack computer systems to steal data that can be used for
intelligence, held for ransom, sold, used to incite scandals and chaos, or even
destroyed.
Cyber Punk

Cyberpunk is a sensibility or belief that a few outsiders, armed with their own
individuality and technological capability, can fend off the tendencies of traditional
institutions to use technology to control society.

The term, combining "cyber" and punk, possibly originated in 1980 with Bruce
Bethke's short story, "Cyberpunk."
Several categories of groups associated with cyberpunk

Hacker - A hacker is totally immersed in computer technology and computer programming,


someone who likes to examine the code of operating systems and other programs to see how they
work.

Cracker - A cracker can be thought of as an unlawful hacker, a person who circumvents or defeats
the security measures of a network or particular computer system to gain unauthorized access.

Phreak- A phreak is a person who breaks into telephone networks or other secured
telecommunication systems to see how they work.
Cyber Terrorism

Cyberterrorism is the convergence of cyberspace and terrorism. It refers to unlawful


attacks and threats of attacks against computers, networks and the information stored
therein when done to intimidate or coerce a government or its people in furtherance of
political or social objectives.

Further, to qualify as cyberterrorism,an attack should result in violence against


persons or property, or at least cause enough harm to generate fear
The Appeal of Cyberterrorism for Terrorists

Cyberterrorism is an attractive option for modern terrorists for several reasons

1. It is cheaper than traditional terrorist methods. All that the terrorist needs is a personal
computer and an online connection. Terrorists do not need to buy weapons such as guns
and explosives
2. terrorists use online nicknames—”screen names”—or log onto a website as an unidentified
“guest user,” making it very hard for security agencies and police forces to track down the
terrorists’ real identity.
3. Cyberterrorism requires less physical training,investment, risk of mortality, and travel than
conventional forms of terrorism, making it easier for terrorist organizations to recruit and
retain followers.
