World War I

World War I was instigated by a

small handful of militant high-
Who provoke
ranking politicians and military
officers in Austria-Hungary, World War I
Germany, and Russia. They were
all members of the 'Black Hand'
group, which engaged in
blackmail and extortion, and did
so successfully. However, they
made a big mistake.
Beginning
The Black Hand ordered the murder of the
heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne,
Archduke Franz Ferdinand. And on the
morning of June 28 1914, six men who were
armed with pistols and grenades were
standing at their positions and two of them
walked away from their positions and the
other unsuccessfully threw a grenade.
However, the Serbian terrorist Gavrilo
Princip shot twice and hit Ferdinand's throat
and the stomach of Ferdinand's wife Sophie.
And that was the beginning of the war.
How Great Britain and Germany
Competed
Germany and Britain competed
on the number of weapons.
They were building ships,
tanks, and buying lots of
weapons and cannons. And the
race began somewhere around
1914, when Britain built HMS
Dreadnought, which was the
best ship for her time. In the
same year Germany created its
Dreadnoughts.
