Definition
•A bond is a letter or certificate of debt recognition, issued by
the borrower on the amount of funds (debt) it receives from
the investor (bondholder) as the party who provides the loan.

•The bottom line is bonds are long-term debt (generally more


than ten years).

•Later, the party receiving the loan is obliged to pay a certain


amount of coupon or interest and principal of the loan to the
bondholder until maturity of the debt, from the result of the
interest paid the investor gets the profit
Characteristics

• Has a maturity period;


• Principal Value of Debt (Nilai
Pokok Utang);
• Bonds Coupon;
• Bond Rating;
• Can be traded.
• Has validity from 1-10 years
Advantages of making bond
an investment
• The advantages from coupon (bunga)
• Increasing selling value
• Safe, guaranteed by UU No 24 2002 & UU
No 19 2008
• Coupon (bunga) in bond is higher than
interest on deposits
• Easily traded
Disadvantages of making bond
an investment
• The issuer has the risk in payment failure
• Vulnerable to changes in interest rates,
economic, and unstable political conditions
• Selling bonds before due date in
secondary market incurs loss for investors
Types of Bonds

The types of bonds is reviewed from who issued it, can be


divided into:
1)Bonds issued by the company

2) Bonds issued by the government

3) Municipal Bond, which is a form of local government


decision to bail
Parties

•Issuer/debtor;

•Bond Holder/creditor / investor;

•The trustee: a party representing the interests of the holder;


and,

•Avalist (guarantor) is the party that guarantee the payment.


Purposes

• Gain more flexible additional funds;

• Get a loan with a flexible interest rate;

• Obtain alternative financing through the capital


market.
