NESTLINGS

Parent bald eagles keep the chicks warm, with mom


Doing most of the sitting during colder weather
because of her larger size. They also hunt and protect the nest
From owls and other eagles.

FLEDGLINGS

At 12 weeks old, baby eagles have the tested out their wings and the
Parents have stopped feeding them, forcing them out of the nest.
After the initial flight, the babies will learn how to hunt for the next\4-12
Weeks. They’ll soon be as big as their parents at about 10-14 lbs, and
have a 6-8 foot wingspan.

JUVENILES

After leaving the nest, there’s a 50-50 chance of young


Eagles not making it through their first year due to
collisions with cars, power lines, etc. or lead poisoning
From eating lead ammo.

Hunting is also difficult and some die of starvation or


Mercury poisoning from fish.

If they do survive their first year, they’ll spend the next 4 years
Living a nomadic life.

ADULTS

5 years old – develops distinct head of white feathers

An adult bald eagle can live 30 years and can raise a


New generation of bald eagles each year.
