DISEASES ASSOCIATED WITH

THE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM

(male & female)
BY: ALTHEA BADURIA AND ALIEZAH FLORES
introduction
REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM DISEASE,any of the diseases and disorders that affect the
human reproductive system. they may include abnormal hormone production by the
ovaries or the testes or by other endocrine glands. such diseases can also be caused by
genetic or congenital abnormalities, infections tumours or disorders of unknown cause.
REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM PROBLEMS
in the male
Some of the reproductive health conditions men may experience include:

impotence – a problem with getting or keeping an erection

infertility – the inability to achieve a pregnancy due to low sperm

production, blockages or other factors

prostate disease – benign prostate enlargement and prostate cancer

sexually transmissible infections (STIs) – bacterial or viral infections

acquired through sexual contact.
REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM PROBLEMS
ANORCHISM
• (absence of one or both testes)-is rare:may be associated with the absence of various other structures of the spermatic
tract.
• generally if one testis is absent, the other is found to be within the abdomen rather than scrotum. congenitally small
testes may be a primary disorder or may occur because of underactivity of the pituitary.
• in both disorders there is a lack of developement of secondary sexual characteristics and some deficiency in libido
and potency.
• Anorchism is treatable with proper therapy. The primary treatment involves hormone therapy to compensate for the
testosterone the testes would have normally produced. Prosthetic testicle implants are also available.
REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM PROBLEMS
in the FEmale
The female external genitalia are less complex than
those of the male but have anomalities that can at
times severely interfere with the functioning of the
female urogenital tract.
REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM PROBLEMS
polycystic ovarian
endometriosis fibroids
the presence and growth of non-malignant
syndrome (PCOS)
functioning endometrial tissue tumours of the womb hormonal disorder common
in places other than the uterus among women of reproductive
age.

sexually transmissible infections

infertility
(STIs)
inability to become bacterial or viral infections
pregnant acquired through sexual contact,
some of which can
cause cancer or infertility.
REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM PROBLEMS
endometriosis

an often painful disorder in which tissue similar to the tissue that normally lines the inside of
your uterus — the endometrium — grows outside your uterus. Endometriosis most commonly
involves your ovaries, fallopian tubes and the tissue lining your pelvis
polycystic ovarian
syndrome (PCOS)
Women with PCOS may have infrequent or prolonged
menstrual periods or excess male hormone (androgen)
levels. The ovaries may develop numerous small
collections of fluid (follicles) and fail to regularly
release eggs.

The exact cause of PCOS is unknown. Early diagnosis

and treatment along with weight loss may reduce the
risk of long-term complications such as type 2 diabetes
and heart disease.
SYMPTOMS
Signs and symptoms of PCOS vary. A diagnosis of PCOS is made when you
experience at least two of these signs:

● Irregular periods. Infrequent, irregular or prolonged menstrual cycles are the

most common sign of PCOS. For example, you might have fewer than nine
periods a year, more than 35 days between periods and abnormally heavy
periods.

● Excess androgen. Elevated levels of male hormones may result in physical

signs, such as excess facial and body hair (hirsutism), and occasionally severe
acne and male-pattern baldness.

● Polycystic ovaries. Your ovaries might be enlarged and contain follicles that
surround the eggs. As a result, the ovaries might fail to function regularly.

PCOS signs and symptoms are typically more severe if you're obese.
conclusion

Our reproductive system is a delicate and complex

system in the body. It is important to take steps to
protect it from infections and injury, and prevent
problems—including some long-term health
problems. Taking care of yourself and making
healthy choices can help protect you and your
loved ones.
