Structure of the Animal Heart
 Vertebrates rely on blood to carry
many of the materials they need to all
parts of the body.
 For blood to move through the body,
something must pump.
 In vertebrate animales, the HEART is
the internal organ that pump blood.
 It usually is located near the center of the body.
 The ribs of the skeleton p
 rotect it.
 Most vertebrates that live in water have hearts that
pump blood around the body in one circular motion.
